The Khothakpa-Tshobaley road surfacing project aims to improve a 14.954 km stretch by providing a durable and smooth pavement for safer and faster travel. The work includes earthworks, pavement surfacing, drainage installation, and utility coordination, ensuring minimal disruption to road users. This project will enhance connectivity, support local transportation needs, and contribute to regional development while adhering to environmental and safety standards.
The surfacing of the Khothakpa-Tshobaley road between 61.546 km and 76.500 km faces challenges including variable terrain, steep slopes, and weak subgrade areas that may require extensive earthworks and stabilization. Adverse weather, particularly heavy rainfall, can delay surfacing operations and compromise pavement quality. Limited access to quality construction materials and transportation constraints may affect the project timeline and cost. Additionally, managing traffic flow, coordinating with utility services, and minimizing environmental and social impacts along the route are critical challenges for smooth execution.
Challenges can be mitigated by conducting thorough site and soil investigations, implementing soil stabilization where needed, and scheduling surfacing activities during favorable weather periods. Timely procurement and transportation of quality materials, along with traffic management plans, will reduce disruptions. Early coordination with utilities and strict environmental protection measures, such as erosion control and dust management, will ensure sustainable construction. Strong supervision, monitoring, and cost control are essential to complete the surfacing efficiently and within budget.
